At the request of moviemaker Walter Salles, Drexler composed Al otro lado del rio to be interpreted by Mercedez Soza. But impressed with the beauty of the material he received, the moviemaker changed his mind and decided to stay with the rustic MP3version that landed in his computer. He also asked Drexler to not add a single note to that untouchable "draft" and that Drexler himself interpreted the song.

During his last press conference, right after the Oscar nomination, Jorge Drexler received the journalists from all over the world in a Madrid theater. Among them were some of the most demanding music critics in Europe. After the interview Drexler presented the audience with Al otro lado del rio. Sitting on a small bench with a guitar and his sweet voice – in the style of his dearest master, Joao Gilberto -, he showed once again why he is one of the most precious discoveries in popular music at this beginning of century.
